What to Do with Weeds

By Raymus Homes - 9-29-2022

Anyone with a lawn knows what it is like to battle with weeds. After you have done the chore of removing these pesky plants from your landscaping, what should you do with them? Don’t just leave them lying around! Here are some ways that you can either use them or dispose of them.

Throw Them in the Compost Bin

If you do not already have a compost bin, you may want to consider getting one. Anyone with a flower or vegetable garden knows that adding different amendments to the soil can give their plants a boost that can make them healthier. The nutrient rich product that eventually is yielded from a compost bin is one such amendment and weeds are organic matter that can contribute to making it.

Throw Them in Your Salad

Many plants that are commonly considered weeds are edible. So do some research before just tossing out those weeds you just pulled! Dandelions are great in teas and the greens are wonderful additions to salads. Other edible weeds include wood sorrel, chickweed, and garlic mustard. See if the weeds in your yard can be used in your kitchen with a quick Google search.

Throw Them in the Fire

If you leave weeds strewn around your yard after you've pulled them, they still run the risk of re- rooting themselves into the ground. Don’t let your hard work go to waste! Make sure that weeds are really gone for good by burning them after you have pulled them.

Throw Them in the Garbage

And then, of course, you can always just throw the weeds into the garbage can! This is one of the better options when dealing with certain noxious weeds like tansy ragwort.

And there you have it. A few of the best ways to use or dispose of weeds.
