How to Maintain Your Pool

By Raymus Homes - 6-24-2020

If you are new to California life, you will find that many homes come with a pool or people have them put in later. You will find that in owning a home with a pool there are some things that you need to do in order to keep it in a good, safe working condition. Raymus Homes knows all things related to California and that includes pool maintenance. We will help break down what kind of time and work goes into having a pool. This will help you to decide if it’s something you actually want to get into.

Note that these things you’re going to have to do on a weekly basis. So, try and pick a day during the week that you can consistently do it on. The first item on the list of things to do is getting it cleaned. If you don’t have one, you’ll need to go out and buy one that can reach far. But just take a couple of minutes to get the things that are floating at the top of the surface and empty out the basket. Empty out the debris where it will not make its way back into the pool.

After this you will need to vacuum the bottom of the pool. It takes about 30 minutes to do the whole pool. This is important to do each week. Once you get the set up down, it won’t take long for you to do. Once you get this done, you’ll be able to move onto adjusting the chemicals. Check your pH levels and chlorine part per million. When doing this always adjust the pH level first.

Now it is time to clean out the filters. The first thing to do is backwash your filter. This will redirect your waterflow so that the dirty water is redirected to the waste line leading to the ground or storm drain. Then you want to go to the pump and clean out that filter. Before you get started though make sure to shut the system down and close the skimmer valve.

The last thing on the list is to add your chlorine to the system. Every system is different. Some just have a floater in the pool. If you have this though, it can be dangerous for kids.

It all seems like a lot, but it can be done in less than an hour once you get the hang of it. If you’re feeling like that is a little much for you then don’t worry. There is nothing that says you have to get a home with a pool. In fact, our homes don’t have pools but are just an hour drive to the beach.
