Staples to Stock Your Kitchen With

By Raymus Homes - 3-25-2022

Spending time in your kitchen shouldn’t be a chore. In effort to make kitchen activities easier and more streamlined, many homeowners invest in an ever changing carousel of new kitchen gadgets and unitaskers. All these items can quickly clutter up your kitchen space and make it frustrating and unenjoyable to work in. That’s why it's best to keep it simple. Here are a few kitchen items that are versatile, easy to use, and will last a lifetime.

Cast Iron Dutch Oven

The first item you should have in your kitchen is a cast iron dutch oven. Prices can range from Lodge to Le Creuset, but regardless of which brand you go with you will be getting a quality piece of cookware. It can be used to slow cook meat and vegetables, to simmer stews and soups, and even make simple breads. Versatile, long lasting, and worth a spot in your cabinets.

Cast Iron Skillet

While we are on the subject of cast iron staples, a cast iron skillet should also earn a place in your kitchen. This truly indestructible piece of cookware is a favorite because it heats slowly and evenly. You can use it on the stovetop, over an open flame, in the oven, or on the grill. If you season it and care for it, this pan will last you generations.

Quality Kettle

Kettles can be extremely multipurpose and for some, they are used everyday. Which is why buying a quality kettle is important for any kitchen. For a good chunk of change, you can get a high quality electric kettle. Many people prefer these since they heat up quickly. But for under $20 you can get a stain resistant stove top version that will be reliable and last you your whole life.

Three Good Knives

You can get fancy with cleavers and boning knives, but most chefs agree that a kitchen with three good knives is the best base. A good paring knife, chef’s knife, and serrated knife will get just about any job done. There are carbon steel and stainless steel options to choose from, but at the end of the day, that just comes down to preference. Invest in a whetstone for sharpening and you will never face a dull knife ever again.

If you arm your kitchen with the timeless and versatile mainstays, you can navigate any cooking task with ease. For even more kitchen inspo, take a look at our Raymus Home gallery page. We make sure to create our kitchens in conjunction with flowing floor plans that just make sense.
