Things to Avoid Pressure Washing

By Raymus Homes - 5-20-2022

Many people are taking advantage of the warmer weather to clean their homes inside and out. And for many, tidying up around their home’s exterior is a lot easier and faster with the help of a pressure washer. This tool can certainly make cleaning a breeze, but it can also damage certain surfaces if you are not careful. Here are a few things that you should avoid when pressure washing this season.

Windows

When the weather is nice, you want to let a little of that sunshine in. Dusty and dirty windows, however, can get in the way of the views. It can be tempting to just hit the outside of your windows with a little water from your pressure washer, especially if you have windows that are hard to reach and clean manually. The problem with this is that the stream from a pressure washer is too powerful for your windows and is likely to break them. Yikes!

Gutters

Cleaning your gutters can be a yucky job, but it is an important one. This is another job that it seems like a pressure washer can handle, but again, this area of your home is too fragile for this approach. The pressure from this tool can detach parts of your drainage system from your house causing it to not work properly. A gentler solution might be to use your garden hose to clear debris.

AC Units

Throughout the year, your air conditioning unit can become a catchall for leaves, branches, dust, and whatever else nature has to offer. Clearing your AC unit of such debris will help keep it in good condition and help it to run smoothly. But make sure not to use the pressure washer to do this job because doing so can bend the delicate metal fins housed within the box. This will ultimately result in a lack of airflow. Instead, clear debris away by using a soft handheld brush to sweep the area clear.

Ultimately, a pressure washer is a versatile tool. Using one to tidy up your yard and home can make spring cleaning a breeze. Just be sure to avoid pressure washing these few items!
